The Language & History of Palestinian Dress | اللغة المطرزة في أثوابنا
Palestinian embroidery, or tatreez (تطريز), is a centuries-old art form preserved and passed on to the next generation through oral history. Wafa Ghnaim, founder of The Tatreez Institute and Senior Researcher for The Metropolitan Museum of Art, facilitates the oral history of Palestinian embroidery through her educational initiatives on the preservation, documentation and research of textile traditions in the diaspora. In this session, participants will learn more about traditional and contemporary Palestinian dress styles over the past century, including those that emerged during The First Intifada (1987-1993), and the importance of symbolism in dress throughout time.
