Betsey Piette
Betsey Piette has served as Treasurer for Playgrounds for Palestine for over ten years, and currently manages the finances for Palestine Writes, for which Playgrounds for Palestine serves as the fiscal sponsor. Piette was an accountant specializing in non-profit accounting for 12 years before retiring in 2012. Since then, she has devoted her energy full time toward social justice work, serving as a managing editor of Workers World Newspaper, and an organizer with Mobilization4Mumia, the International Action Center, and other activism projects. As a pre-teen, Piette witnessed the forced removal of over 600 families – members of the Indigenous Seneca Nation — from their homes to make way for the construction of the Kinzua Dam recreational site. In her early twenties, she became aware of the resistance of Palestinians to Israeli occupation and genocide and has been active with solidarity work for Palestine ever since.
