Freedom for Khalida Jarrar Now

On December 26, 2023, Palestinian feminist, political leader, human rights activist, and speaker at Palestine Writes Literature Festival, Khalida Jarrar, was arrested in her home by the Zionist occupying forces. Her re-arrest comes as Israel targets Palestinian leaders in the West Bank as they continue their genocidal bombing of Gaza.

Jarrar was scheduled to speak at Palestine Writes 2020, but Israel’s military occupation imprisoned her then without charge or trial. We were lucky to have her as a participant at our 2023 festival in Philadelphia, where she spoke about the consumption and production of culture among political prisoners.

Khalida is a Palestinian warrior.  Her profile as a leader dedicated to exposing Israeli war crimes to international institutions has made her a frequent target of zionist colonial rage. She has been vocal since the 1980s in support of Palestinian prisoners, and is prominently active in working with Palestinian women and advocating for women’s rights.

The first of multiple arrests began in March 1989, when she was detained for participating in a demonstration on International Women’s Day. She was arrested again in 2015, 2017, and 2019 during which she spent 5 years under administrative detention with her most recent release in September, 2021.

We echo other Palestinian & prisoners rights organizations in demanding that the Zionist regime release Khalida Jarrar and all others trapped in Zionist jails immediately.
